About us

Te Huka Waiohinganga (Esk) River Care Group was formed when some like minded locals got together in late 2018. After a few hui, we decided that our vision is to partner with our community to improve water quality and biodiversity in Te Huka Waiohinganga (Esk) catchment.  The catchment does contain small pockets of native bush, but native vegetation on the river edges and on the streams that lead into the Esk river is minimal. As a result, during high rain events lots of sediment enters the river and overall there is little biodiversity in the catchment.  We are keen to turn this around and have begun with planting natives along a riverside strip of land just upstream of Eskdale Park.
